About Me

Joni Kamiya is a licensed and board certified occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience from the mental health setting to home health. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Hawaii. She later earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999.

She has worked as a program coordinator for Idylwood Care Center, developing a meaningful activity program for their neurobehavioral clients and perfomed wheelchair seating and positioning. Later she transition to Belmont Village as a Learning Coordinator developing activities for assisted living residents.

Upon returning home to Hawaii, Joni has worked in the acute setting and skilled nursing facilities. She has also been a volunteer with Project Dana’s Caregiver Support Group since 2009. Those experiences has helped give her a foundation for understanding the many issues clients and caregivers face in elder care.

Joni currently works in the home health setting that has truly rounded out her experience through the elder care journey. By seeing client go from the rehab setting and finally home, she has a complete view of the multiple issues that arise.

Joni is certified in LSVT BIG treatment for those living with Parkinson’s disease and neurological conditions. She also holds a certificate on diabetes self management from the ADCES and is a member. She is in process of becoming a Driver Rehabilitation Professional from ADED.

Her experiences as a professional and caregiver has given her a wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills in helping other caregivers maximize the quality of life of our seniors and support their caregivers.
